"I originally started taking lessons with Suzanne because I needed to get prepared for my highschool exams, however I stuck with them because of the amazing environment they provided me to try new things or just be myself with my music." - Arianna I
Hello there! I'm so glad you're here, ready to take the next step on a musical journey! Over the past decade, it's been my joy to teach hundreds of students of a wide range of ages, skill levels, and genres, at both my home studio and arts high school studios in Toronto.
Born and raised in small-town Ontario, not far down the road from London, I'm delighted to be returning to my roots to re-launch my teaching studio in the heart of this beautiful city. I'm passionate about holistic music education, helping my students grow as musicians and individuals, using teaching techniques based in the latest research. I believe in creating a safe, inclusive space for community through the arts - we are so much better together!
So - take a look around, or send me a message via the contact page. I can't wait to meet you, and to begin helping you (or your child) stretch those musical wings!

Training with Suzanne was truly eye opening, and with her, I found confidence and grounding in my classical singing technique. With her help, I was well-prepared for my application to a summer program with The Juilliard School in 2018, which I was accepted into and attended, as well as, to undergraduate programs for music. In the Fall of 2019, I began attending the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music for classical voice studies. As someone who is also pursuing a musical career in pop/r&b, I continue to use what I've learned in my lessons with her whenever I perform.

Suzanne is a caring pedagogue whose teaching includes voice, mind and spirit. Teaching teens requires emotional understanding and interpretation beyond technique. Suzanne gets it. Suzanne tailors her pedagogical approach for each individual student and creates community in her studio.

Ms. Schaafsma is a wonderful vocal teacher! In lessons, I have learned to develop my vocal skills through beneficial exercises including movement exercises and mental strategies to help cope with performance nerves/anxiety. Ms. Schaafsma's method of teaching has been very effective in improving my vocal strength and the quality of my voice using healthy techniques.

Our children had the fortune of being introduced to piano by Suzanne, and moved on to take conservatory exams in Toronto. Suzanne conveys a sense of reverence for music in her approach to teaching. Her studio space was a positive and serene learning space. Our kids developed an accountable, and caring connection with Suzanne that motivated them to keep up with piano. Thank you for the many years of teaching!

Suzanne is kind and encouraging. When I didn't feel confident about piano exams she reassured me that I was ready and she was right! I also liked playing at the studio recitals because we got perform for other students and family in a relaxed environment.

My daughter has taken lessons with Suzanne for seven years. In that time, Suzanne has guided her through each stage, including preparing for three RCM exams, with patience and kindness. She has been fundamental in instilling a love of playing the piano in my child and we are so grateful to have had her as a teacher.

I learned to play the piano with Suzanne when I was six years old. I liked that she was patient and used games to teach me.
