At NewSong we celebrate ALL musical styles! My graduate vocal pedagogy training in both classical and commercial vocal styles equips me to teach vocalists in a wide range of genres. This is what makes NewSong unique—it's a place where you can master the musical styles you love and explore something new. One of my favourite parts of my job is that I'm always discovering new music to love! What's your current music obsession? I can't wait to hear about it!

I grew up harmonizing folk songs and hymns with my two sisters and have been writing songs for voice and piano ever since I can remember. My love of sung poetry deepened during my undergrad studying art song, and I spent those summers doing farm work while belting country music. While completing my master's degree in classical vocal pedagogy, I got to perform in operas in France and England, and met my jazz-guitarist husband, whom I love improvising with. Lately I've been dedicating summers to professional development for my pop/rock/music theatre chops. I went into labour while dancing to "Uptown Funk" and spend a lot of time these days singing along with Raffi and whatever other current musical obsession I'm introducing my kiddos to.

That's okay! You can follow along on Instagram or Facebook.

At NewSong everyone is encouraged to stretch their comfort zone and share their voice in a wide variety of performance opportunities. Seasoned performers are prepared for shows and auditions. Those who prefer structured goals can work toward formal conservatory exams and perform in Kiwanis festivals or NATS vocal auditions. NewSong holds both full-studio recitals and smaller studio classes or junior music parties where students can perform for each other in a safe, supportive environment. The highlight of the NewSong year is definitely the year-end backyard concert and party. It's a blast!

I love working with both beginners and advanced students. I've helped four-year-olds find middle C and prepared students for their professional and university auditions—even Juilliard!

Each voice is valuable and unique, so lesson experiences are personalized with each client's goals, needs, and skills in mind. I want my clients to THRIVE! Confidence communicating, creative thinking, self-awareness, growth mindset, organizational aptitude, and problem-solving skills are all at the root of growing excellent musicians. These core strengths enrich all of life. Clients at NewSong are equipped and encouraged to grow in these areas while also developing artistry and technique. This is why studying at NewSong is an asset for everyone, whether your goal is a career in music or personal enjoyment.
